When starting up SchoolLeader from a networked workstation, you may receive an error message stating that the 'referred shortcut cannot be found'. Before calling SchoolLeader Technical Support, you should first do some preliminary troubleshooting.
Ensure that the server PC is turned on. If it is on, then reboot the server PC.
Once the server has been rebooted, reboot the workstation. If you receive a message on the workstation that a 'network connection cannot be established' or 'unable to connect to network drive', you are experiencing a network related issue, and should contact you local PC/LAN support person.
If you receive a message that the 'shortcut referred to in the target shortcut does not exist', then someone at your center has mistakenly renamed the SchoolLeader shortcut. To rename the SchoolLeader shortcut back to the correct shortcut name:
Right click on the shortcut name
Left click on Properties
Click on Shortcut
Verify that the correct shortcut name is properly defined in the 'target' window. If the wrong shortcut is in the target window, then recreate the shortcut to the SchoolLeader software on your server. If you need help with creating a shortcut, you can call SchoolLeader Technical Support for assistance.
Due to network issues, you may at times loose your mapped network drive to the SchoolLeader server. The method of mapping differs from one operating system to another. If you are unfamiliar with this terminology, it is probably in your best interest to hire a local PC/Network technician to assist you with maintaining your network. SchoolLeader Technical Support will attempt to assist you troubleshoot PC issues unrelated to SchoolLeader, but we can only guarantee resolution of SchoolLeader questions or issues.
Generally speaking, to map a network drive from a SchoolLeader workstation:
click on My Network Places, or Network Neighborhood (typically an icon on your desktop)
locate the SchoolLeader Server in your list of devices and folders. From the top toolbar, click on TOOLS
click on MAP NETWORK DRIVE. A window similar to this will display:
select a drive letter. The letter you choose is up to you, but you should choose the same drive letter that was used when you initially installed the workstation software. If you pick a different drive letter than was originally selected, you will need to reinstall the SchoolLeader Workstation software (WRKSETUP).
click on BROWSE. Select the SchoolLeader Server Folder.
click on OK, or APPLY, or FINISH
ensure that the box is checked that says 'RECONNECT AT LOGON'
click on OK, or APPLY, or FINISH
start up the SchoolLeader software on the workstation. If the workstation still cannot see the server, then reinstall the SchoolLeader workstation software.
