The Family Setup Wizard is a tool for quickly building Guardian Folders and their relationships with existing Student Folders. This is a great method for doing the initial setup of a "family" in SchoolLeader and will be much quicker than the alternative method of manually creating the Guardian Folders and establishing the Relationships by hand. Although, there is nothing stopping you from building the Folders manually, you will find this is a better alternative when entering a new Student into your system which needs two or more Guardians registered with them.
The Family Setup Wizard allows you to define much of the "significant" information about a Guardian such as contact information and their Student relationship. However, it does not handle all the information you potentially may want to record in their folder. Therefore, you should consider this tool a means of quickly creating the Folders and Relationships but not always as a final step to that end. For some Guardian Folders (e.g. Primary Guardians) you may still need to open the Guardian Folder after it is created to add additional information.
It is important to understand that this window is not intended as a reference window for existing data. You cannot view existing Guardians and their recorded information here. You can only create new Folders.
To create a new Guardian Folder simply identify the existing Student who this Guardian is associated with by selecting their name from the STUDENT NAME dropdown listbox. If the Student does have a Folder created yet use the Student Folder to create it and then return to this window.
Once the Student is identified you can simply begin entering the information for the first Guardian on your list. Enter their Name, Relationship to the Student, Reach Numbers, etc.
If the wizard finds an existing Folder that matches the same name as this new Guardian you will be asked if this existing Guardian should be used instead of creating a new one. If you answer "yes" the existing information recorded about this Guardian will be loaded into the wizard fields for your review and modifications.
When you are done entering the information for this Guardian simply press the "SAVE GUARDIAN AND CONTINUE" button. The Wizard will then create the Guardian Folder, add the specified information in the appropriate Folder locations, and then build the relationship between this new folder and the original Student Folder. Of course, if this was an existing Guardian which the wizard found for you, the folder will not be recreated but simply associated with the new Student. Any existing relationships that Guardian Folder had will not be affected.
At this point the wizard will clear the screen (with the exception of the Address fields) and then be ready to begin defining the next Guardian. The address fields are left populated since more times than not this info is the same for family members (e.g. Father and Mother). However, if the information is different simply type over it when the time comes.
When you have entered the last Guardian press the FINISHED button to save them and exit the wizard.
