Scanner Controls - tab

Scanning Parameters - box

These parameters allow you to fine tune the biometric capture and matching process.  In most cases the default values will be sufficient, however, if you find your matching is not performing up to expectations, you can try to adjust these values.  You can always return to the SchoolLeader default values by pressing the RESTORE TO DEFAULT SETTINGS button.

Quality Factor -
These values instruct the matching engine to reject any images that do not have acceptable contrast and clarity.

Min: Tells matching engine to reject any images with a quality rating below this value.  Must be between 10 and 100

Norm: Tells the matching engine to try and capture images with a quality rating of this value.  Must be between 100 and 150

Minutiae Points-
These values instruct the matching engine to reject any images that do not have enough unique characteristics to identify it.

Min: Tells engine to reject any images with less then this number of unique characteristics.  Must be between 1 and 12

Norm: Tells the matching engine to try and capture images with this number of unique characteristics.  Must be between 12 and 20

Stability Factor-
These values instruct the matching engine to reject any images that are changing too significantly from one snapshot to the next .  This prevents the engine from capturing images until the user has positioned their finger and is remaining still

Min: Tells engine to reject any images with less then this number of prior stable frames.  Must be between 1 and 20

Norm: Tells the matching engine to try and capture images with this number of prior stable frames.  Must be between 20 and 30

Frame Count-
These values instruct the matching engine to collect a certain number of frames before doing any matching.  Multiple frames can be analyzed and cross referenced to produce a "generalized" image containing a composite of all the features.  This helps improve matching.

Min: Tells engine to collect at least this number of frames before matching.  Must be between 2 and MAX setting

Max: Tells the matching engine to capture at least this number of frames before matching.  Must be between 2 and 30

Match Similarity Score-
This value instructs SafePASS on how strict or lenient it should be when determining if a finger matches a stored template.  The value must be between 15 and 100.  The default is 70.  Under normal circumstances the default value is sufficient, however, if you find yourself getting some users who are incorrectly being identified as someone else (False Positives) then raise the number.  Be mindful to the fact that raising the number may increase the number of fingers that don't get identified at all (False Negatives).  The goal is to find a number that gives you the least false positives and false negatives.

Activate Keypad Buzzer on scanners-
Check this box if you want the user to hear audible 'beeps' whenever they press the keyboard.  This is useful to help ensure buttons were pressed, however, it can add to the noise pollution near your lobby.

Keep Physical Access Logs for:
All entries using SafePASS are logged for review using FrontDesk Manager reports.  This value instructs SafePASS how long to keep the logs before discarding them.

When Access is granted, open door for:
This value represents the number of seconds the door should stay open once a finger is recognized as having authority to enter.

Bypass Codes - box

This box contains codes which allow you to perform certain functions without identifying yourself through a biometric scan.  Sometimes this is necessary, however, these codes should not be shared with anyone except the SafePASS administrator and/or the school administrators.  These codes have initial default values (shown in the example above), however, they can be changed to any value you desire.

Start Registration-
Registration of new fingers can be performed directly from the door scanners OR from a special registration station inside the school.  If you wish to register directly from a scanner at the door, you need to have your own finger specially registered already with that authority.  To start the registration process entering this special code and pressing the OK button at the keypad.

Force Registration without Authorization Step-
The "Start Registration" code will initiate the registration process by first asking you to authenticate yourself as someone authorized to perform registrations.  If you want to bypass that first authorization step, use this code instead.  This is necessary for the very first time you are registering yourself.  Once you've registered your own finger, you can use the Start Registration" code.

Unlock Door-
Registration of new fingers can be performed directly from the door scanners OR from a special registration station inside the school.  If you wish to register directly from a scanner at the door, you need to have your own finger specially registered already with that authority.  To start the registration process entering this special code and pressing the OK button at the keypad.

Currently Active Scanners - box

This box displays status for the scanners that are connected to your network.  It shows current status (green border means communicating, red border means there's a problem).  It also shows you finger scans as they occur along with informational feedback below the scan box.  This area is useful when troubleshooting problems.  Short of that, it would not be used very often.

Access Locations & Rules - grid

This grid lists all the scanners that you have defined on your network.  This list is used by SafePASS to identify and communicate with the devices.  The grid columns are defined below;

Location Description-
Any descriptive name that helps you uniquely identify the door location for the scanner (e.g. "Front Door", "Playground door", etc.).  This description is only used in this process.

Scanner IP Address-
A unique IP address that conforms to your LAN's subnet mask.  The S3000 scanners are devices which communicate via TCP/IP over your ethernet LAN.

Scanner Security Activation Code-
The unique Activation Code that was provided to you with each specific scanner.  This code allows SafePASS to uniquely identify each scanner and ensures the request for finger data is legitimately being requested by one of it's known devices.

Scanner Security Authentication Code-
The unique Authentication Code (similar to the Activation Code above)

Default Entry Access-
Defines whether this access location is available 24/7 or if access is limited.

Default Entry Start Time-
If you specify "Limited" access above, then define the start time for this scanner to become active.

Default Entry End Time-
If you specify "Limited" access above, then define the end time for this scanner to become inactive.

Access Time Rules

This rule defines when the entire SafePASS security system is active and monitoring the doors.  This setting overrides any times set for specific door locations.

Block Rules

This rule tells SafePASS to block access for any individual who has an Accounts Receivable problem defined by your settings.  This allows you to prevent a customer (parent) from entering the building without your permission.  This can give you an opportunity to discuss any balance problems with them before they can drop off or pickup their children.

Biometric Database - tab

This tab displays all the registered individuals in SafePASS.  It shows their name, type, gender, and status for access.  The ACTIVATE/DEACTIVATE AUTOMATIC ACCESS button allows you disable the access to the building without removing them from the system.  If you do want to fully purge their finger template from the database, use the PURGE BIOMETRIC DATA button

This information is not unique to this window.  You can access this same information on an individual basis directly from the Student, Guardian, or Employee Folders.  However, seeing the data in a single list can only be obtained from here.
